Dr. Muslimah ‘Ali Najee-ullah, The Fitness Doc, earned her Ph.D. in Anatomy from Howard University in 2009, as a fellow at the National Institutes of Health, National Institute for Neurological Disorders and Stroke. After studying movement disorders for many years, she decided to use her expertise to help her fellow community members. Given the overall poor condition of health of those in the African American community, she founded “Fit and Healthy You with Dr. ‘Ali”, the Healthy Lifestyle Evolution. Fit and Healthy You (FNHY) offers interactive and engaging health and fitness education through classes, workshops, health fairs, and demonstrations; provides virtual and in-person run coaching (5K through marathon); facilitates healthy weight loss through group fitness training and group fitness challenges online; and delivers expert health, fitness, and nutrition advice nationwide through seminars, articles, blog posts, and social media.
As a health and fitness expert, Dr. ‘Ali is a certified Zumba, group fitness instructor, and Road Runners Club of America run coach. She has taught hundreds of fitness classes across the United States, including Zumba, circuit and high intensity interval training, and strength training with free weights and resistance bands. The Fitness Doc has coached almost 100 women and men to successfully complete 5K, 10K, half marathon, and marathon races. Through the launch of FNHY’s initiatives the100 Days of Fitness Challenge, January Photo-A-Day Photo Challenge, and Spring into Spring 10 Day Detox over 50 women nationwide attribute these programs to jump starting their health and fitness journey; developing healthy habits for long term weight loss and better overall health.
Understanding that knowledge is power, Dr. ‘Ali is a proponent of health education. Through FNHY, she offers health consultations, weight-loss exercise programs, and comprehensive meal planning. She has delivered dynamic presentations on health and wellness at national conferences and local hospital and community programs. Some of the topics have included Understanding the Health Benefits of the Oft-repeated Foods in The Qur’an, What’s in a Food Label? Making Healthy Food Choices, Nutrition Strategies and Secrets for Dining Out, and Mental Health: Making the Mind Body Connection. This past Ramadan she co-authored her first eBook Ramadan Ready an interactive guide complete with dua’, recipes, and nutrition tips to having a rewarding Ramadan.
Dr. ‘Ali not only talks the talk, but she walks the walk! Since the launch of FNHY in 2012, she sustains a healthy lifestyle by participating in consistent exercise programs; maintaining a well- balanced, nutrient rich diet; and competing in local and national races. Muslimah has successfully completed 9 5Ks, 8 half marathons, 2 marathons, and 1 sprint triathlon (swim, bike, and run). She resides in the Baltimore metro area with her husband, Tariq where she homeschools their children: Tanzeelah (6), Yusriyyah (2), and Mubeen ‘Ali (3 months).
